MEXICO TO CANADA BIKE RIDE

This Sunday (30th May), my mate Derek and I set of for the bike ride of a life time. Over five weeks (of riding) we will ride from the Mexican border at Nogales to West Glacier in Canada. The route will take in many well known sites, including the Grand Canyon and Yellow Stone Park, and will cover over 2740miles rising to nearly 12000ft as we ride north through the Rockie Mountain range (Continental Divide).

The first three weeks of riding will be unsupported so Derek and I will be lugging our kit with us in panniers and staying in B&B style hotels. Our wives, Rhonda and Lesley will then join us at Denver where we will pick up a 27' RV (Recreational Vehicle) providing support and accommodation for the next two weeks. Rhonda and I will then drop Derek and Lesley off at Spokane airport for then to commence their return trip to the UK. Rhonda and I will then stay for a further week to take a relaxed drive back to Denver to return the RV before returning home on 17th July.

Many of you will know that I recently lost my mum to pulmonary embolisms and thought it would be a nice idea to devote this ride to her memory and to use the opportunity to raise money for our chosen charity; The British Lung Foundation. Donations can be given directly through the 'JustGiving' website www.justgiving.com/Mexico-to-Canada-bike-ride Many thanks to those that have donated so generously already.
We will not have Internet access with us but hope to update this Blog as often as we can so, if you are interested, you can follow our progress. Watch this space!!!

  1. Very best of luck to all involved! I'll be thinking of you during your week 3 (12-20 June) when I'll be riding John O'Groats to Land's End. Compared to your epic voyage it should be "simples". I look forward to monitoring your progress on the blog when you happen to find an internet cafe in the Rockies! Take care. Love, Julia

  2. 2740 miles over six weeks? Will you be riding 65 miles a day or taking a few breaks to admire the view?

The very best of luck for a safe journey to you both.

  3. We wish you both the best of luck and enjoyment in the venture. Not only will it be a fantastic challenge and trial for you both but the money that you collect for the British Lung Foundation will go to help prevent other people suffering as our mum did. Stay safe and don't overdo it - remember, you're both veterans now! Looking forward to keeping up with the journey on the blog - see you soon - John & Denise
